Default Painting rollcage question

Figured this would be the most appropriate place to post this, mods if there's an issue just let me know.

Just got my car back from the fabricators, and finally have some time to paint the cage. Wanted to get some input on what brand/type of paints you have had success with?

I'm interested to see if anyone has used the Duplicolor Wheel Paint series, I've used it before, and it held up great...no chipping...scatching etc.

Just looking for some input, searched the archives, but didn't find what I was looking for.

No matter what, you're going to end up scuffing the paint as you get in and out. It's the way it is unless you run padding over everything.
I've used the wheel paint your mentioned on other things, but never a cage. Frankly, I think it would hold up great.
In the past, I've always cheaped out and gone the Krylon route. As long as it has a chance to cure fully, you shouldn't have any problems. Leave your windows closed and let it bake in the sun for a few days.
Just make sure you mask EVERYTHING off. If you're going this in your garage, use a respirator. The fumes are going to go everywhere in that enclosed area. You don't want dain brammage.

Started with the 'chute mount tonight, the Duplicor Wheel Paint is awesome, bonds great, no drips or blotches. I'll post some pics of everything when I'm done.

I am going to be in your shoes real soon and I was also wondering what everyone uses on their cages.
Post some pics and when the cage is mild steel do you guys do anything extra to coat the welds for rust?

i like to use rustoluem Professional. And use some metal etch prior to painting, then tape everything off and go at it.

I just re-did my cage, finished yesterday actually. I think it will be one of those things that i end up doing every few years.

Clean the tubes really well. Make sure you get the oil off them that the mill coats the tubes with. Then spray with some sort of etching primer. I would use a paint that you can touch up easily and it won't show. Also use something light so you can see any damage that shows up in an accident.

Sorry to bring this old thread back to life but when getting these cages certified how can the guys tell what material the cages are and how the welds look after the paint is on them?

To prevent scuffing I used a clear bra material around the places that would get scuffed. It has worked great for me.
