downsides to getting an ls and dropping a b18c1 in it - or just get a gsr
Hey guys, im on a budget, but i really want a gsr. Some of the engines of the gsrs currently on the market are kind of shady, and i want to make sure the engine i get/use is clean and good for a good while. I want to learn how to build up the engines, but firstly, would their be any major problem w/ dropping a b18c1 (or c5) in an ls?? (including the tranny). Are there any structural differences between the gsr and ls? Im scoping out 94-00 ls's. Another question is if i buy a 94 ls, and get a b18c1 from a 98 or something would i need a 94 ecu or a 98 ecu? Thanks!
a gsr or type r swap would be a straight drop in...if you swap a '98 gsr in youre going to need that ecu...the good thing about the swap is that you get one with lower miles but in the end youd probably spend more than just buying a gsr...seems like youre fairly new to this so i recommend just get a gsr and learn with that
how long could i expect a gsr w/ 133k miles if i keep it up with matinence to last?? Kinda paranoid about high mileage cars, but i do realize that some of these tegs last forever. Thanks.
depends on how much u buy the car and the motor. mine came out cheaper than buying a straight gsr. bougt my teg for 800 clean title. pretty much complete car minus the motor. then i jsut tracked down a gsr and i lucked out and got it for 1300 complete swap. legit with papers. no grinds or blowing any smoke minor leaks tho. so like i said it all depends. as for droping it in they will fit and drops in like a charm. u just have wires up the vtec and such. if u go with the 98 motor u will need the 98 ecu. but if u plan to stay with the 94-97 setup then u dont need a 98 ecu the 94-97 will be fine. it all depends on what u trying to do. u can even use a different ecu as well. like a chipped p28. anyway do u planning and search search search u never what u find.
