when i do normal driving, my 3rd gear doesnt grind, but when i run it, it grinds while putting it in 3rd... what can be the problem? is tranny messed up? or maybe its the clutch that is messed up? help please

 

run it meaning u are driving hard right? Synchros going bad. Its common on honda tansmission. How many miles are on yours?

 

your synchros might be going out. Try changing your tranny oil with some GM mesh tranny oil. For some people it solves the problem, some solves the problem but only for a short amount of time, and most of the time you'll have to replace the synchro itself. All in all the usual case is replacing your entire tranny with a used one. I've been in this situation and i just replaced the entire tranny.

If your thinking about taking it to a shop? Dont, well unless your balling haha, I've got quoted $300-$400 from 3 shops, and this amount is only for taking off the tranny and replacing it with the new one. Imagine paying for a synchro and labor to replace it. I wouldn't want to pay for that total haha...I'd start looking for a new tranny. Seems like your in LA, try checking out JPR....there located in El monte, i got my tranny from there

 

pennzoil synchromesh at any parts store, or gm synchromesh or friction modified synchromesh, from gm parts. eliminated my grind.

 

i just had a gsr motor droped into my hatch like 2 months ago... when purchaced... motor was said to have 30-50k miles... and i been driving it for about 5000 miles since. synchros cant be going bad that fast huh??

 

its a common problem , the miles dont matter. the oem honda fluid apparently isnt thin enough or slippery enough. but try the synchromesh, it fixed mine and many others.
