Low fuel light comes on too early
My low gas light comes on when I have maybe 100 to 150 miles left to go!
Is there a way to set it to tell me when I'm really down to the last gallon or less?
2007 Accord VP AT (4cyl, obviously)

The light is supposed to come on when you have approximately 4 gallons left. It helps to make sure you people know they're low on gas, which is especially helpful if you're traveling somewhere where the nearest gas station is still another 50 miles away or more.
But as skingfreak already asked, where is the needle on the gauge when the light comes on? How many gallons does it take to fill up the tank as soon as the light turns on?

I don't think it's malfunctioning based on your description, it does go on when there's about 3-4 gals left. I don't think I've ever filled it up when the light first comes on, but I'd guess it'd only take about 13-13.5 gals at that point.
Is there a way to change what it's definition of 'nearly empty' is?

If you know how to program an ECU there is. Otherwise, you'll just have to live with it.

I don't- I have no idea how to do anything with the ECU but I am an electrical engineer so if there's any websites or anything that describes the physical and electrical interface and the protocol I should be able to do it...
My Light came on at 436 miles tonight, I filled up at 478. It took 14.2 gallons and some spilled over. It is a 2006 Accord, I think it has a 16.9 gallon tank? I was actually wondering how far I could get. On the 7th gens the light comes on at the last white bar before you get to empty.

I have a similar problem with my 2000 EX that started a few months ago. The fuel level gauge shows the correct fuel level, but the low fuel indicator light is constantly lit....regardless of the fuel level. According to my the Haynes manual this fuel indicator light on the instrument panel gets it input from the fuel pump "thermistor" (not the fuel gauge sending unit). My question is....can this thermistor be replaced? Assuming it is the source for having the low fuel indicator light constantly on.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Since at 1990 actually. 86-89 Accords had a 16 gallon tank, and I don't know about 1st or 2nd gen Accords.

why don't you jsut wait for the secondary really really low gas indicator to come on. the car will shut off to signal that it is time to get gas.
fyi, i am pretty sure honda designed the car this way, as not everyone is within 1 gal driving distance to the nearest gas station. so i doubt anything is broken.
