Default About to purchase a CRX...what to look for?

I'm about to purchase a 91 CRX. I've always liked them, and need a daily driver that gets great gas mileage. The CRX HF fits the bill perfectly. I've heard that rust can be an issue so I'll make sure to look out for that. But in terms of engine reliability etc...is there anything else I should be wary of? Any common problems that the CRX owners face? Thanks, and hope to be getting one in a week or so.

Just take the one you want to a mechanic and have them do a compression and leakdown test like any other vehicle and you should be good to go if it checks out.

Other than that, just the usual used car stuff...good luck.

Make sure you look for rotted bushings as well. Go over the body verrry carefully to check for bondo and get inside the rear wheel wells good because those are the rust hangouts.

Thanks for the tips. I'd love to find an HF in good condition and low 100k. I'm drooling at the prospect of 50 mpg.

Check for rust under the rear bumper where the seams meet, I've seen it more than once.

You want to check under the spare tire for rust & water.

Check the plastic on top of the rockers for rust.

Roll up and down the windows.

Look at the wire harness and make sure everything looks kosher (eyeball **** it).

Check the plugs, look at the coolant and oil levels.

Take it to atleast 40 (preferably 60-70) & watch for shaking.

I could go on.. but that's the biggies in my opinion.

if it was me, i would also be looking heavily into the rocker panels as well, i've seen a lot of them have some pretty serious rust.....also, watch out for bigger vehicles on the road, for some reason they think that cuz they're bigger they can just move you out of the way, i've been nearly ran off the road 8 or 9 times in the 3 years i've been driving rex's
