Ok you say you work at a bodyshop but you dont know what makes paint look glassy...hmm

I mean are you the kid that weedeats for them or something. Everyone knows that your clear is what makes your paint have a thick glassy coat over it.

I heard of a color called 3 Stage black, or deep black, or something like that? its pure black but something is special about it, i know the clear makes the glass look, i plan on wetsanding the entire car after, also puttin 5-6 coats of clear.

The BMW black is actually single stage(no clear) Jet Black made by Sikkens, blackest black made, yet still shiny.
Another choice is "Ebony" code 9700 by PPG... it is the base black for all colors made by PPG, when clear coated it will hurt your eyes in the sun...trust me.

Have fun keeping it clean tho!

Prepper/Apprentice painter. Pretty much just started tho so dont know much yet, its a production bodyshop so we dont deal with high end paint jobs or anything, so no one really knows much at my shop about the nicer paint jobs.

Stock Honda color that comes on that car with the same gold is Granada black pearl. I have the same paint on my EG6 and has a nice gold tint to it.

Dupont makes a black basecoat called 99K...its a super glossy black, I sprayed my roof that color and used Dupont chromaclear 7900s.... here's how it turned out

I'm puzzled as to why BMW would spend millions of dollars on R&D annually only to put a single stage paint on a car. Btw, they use Glasurit paint... same stuff Porsche uses.

Sprayed a mustang with PPG's DBC-9700 and cleared with
10% tinted DCU 2021.

I haven't ventured that far into "the blackest paint job".

Just my .02. Cheap too.

I know BMW doesn't actually use the Sikkens single stage, but the shop I worked at painted the rear half of a new 850i with it and you could not tell the difference between the Sikkens and the factory basecoat/clearcoat paint.
I just suggested it because the Jet Black is the blackest black on the market.

I would still go for the DBC9700 from PPG since it looks great and is cheap.
