Default junkyard dog

sooo....I'm new to the forum but not to Honda's. I've got a 1989 Honda Civic hatch. Its got the four-speed and the standard 1.5l. I recently found an Acura Integra sitting in the junk yard with a ZC swap. I'm not sure what's wrong with the vehicle, but I could ****** the head and manifolds for around $150. I think I could grab the pistons, rods and ECU for just a bit more. Should I go for it?

Are you sure its a ZC??

the 1g tegs came with a D16a1, which is similar but not a ZC...I'm not 100% sure but there are 2 versions of the D16a1 Brown(86-87) and Black top(88-89)...I think the 88-89 is swapable but i've heard some say it isn't...

Onlything worth money on the motor is the Dizzy

Some people also confuse the 90-93 B18a1 with a ZC or D16a1...

well...here's the thing that confuses me...if it were an Acura motor, wouldnt it say Acura on the valve cover, rather than Honda and VTEC?

You can use the pistons to bump up compression I believe but the head is no use, you can't convert a SOHC D to a DOHC D, well you can but is a very expensive process...

Now if you had a EW motor Pre-88 civic/CRX you could do a hydra swap which is the SOHC to DOHC head...but anyways thats a whole other story...

and to inform he missinformed Acura only exsits in the good old USA, everywhere else "Acuras" wore the "H" honda logo

well, if what you guys are saying is true, and the motor I'm looking at IS a D-series block, it shouldnt be that difficult to do a head swap. My block's a 1.5l anyway, so the cylinders would have to be bored a bit anyway to accomidate for the 1.6l pistons. So, in reality, a head swap like that wouldnt be quite as difficult as it would seem, correct?

P.S. I may only be 17 but I know what I'm doing/talking about when it comes to motors in general.

ALSO; if what Loserkidwac says is true "Acura only exsits in the good old USA", then it is some kind of motor swap, correct?

You may know what you're talking about in general, but not this topic .

The D16 out of the 1st gen teg isn't "really" considered a D series. No you can't swap heads and have it cost effective. All D series are the same bore by the way.

As far as the acura thing, in north america, the cars have an acura badge, but all the engines have the Honda H. The difference is everything is called honda in japan. Honda integra, honda nsx, etc.

What everyone else said

you can't swap a DOHC Head on a SOCH block with out the pain of customization.

Oh and Acura is finally coming out in Japan in 2008. They are going to use the name on the High end cars in Japan.

Fine Acura is a Noth American thing then, i didn't think Canada got any Acuras

Acuras recieved Honda Engines...I guess you never looked under the Hood of an Integra before...

The car is the junkyard if similar is more than likely a 1G integra..did it look like this body style...

or a 2G Integra

As everyone has been telling you the D16a1 is pretty much useless to you...I'm usually not about JDM motors but it would be smarter and more practical to order a JDM ZC motor from an importer than trying to get the D16a1 to fit with custom mounts or trying to do a head swap...

If its a 2G teg, than snag up that LS swap and drop that in

judging from the pic above, I'd say its a 2G teg.

I checked today, and the teg is still in the junk yard. I even pulled a strut tower brace from it too. $20 for a Neuspeed brace, cant get much better than that.

alrighty...I still haven't checked the block code yet, BUT I did put on a 2" custom catback. 2" from the cat down to a glasspack to help quiet things down a bit.
