Default backfire

Hi I have a 1995 del sol vtec and sometimes when I am at like let say 4000rpm or higher and I let off the gas it backfires I can hear crackles coming from the exhaust nothing loud tho. The only mods I have are mugen twin loop exhaust (catback) aem short ram intake, aem pulleys. It has a b16a3 motor and I use 92 octane gas.

ps: The car runs fine I am just curious what would cause this. The motor only has 124k on it.

Back-firing is generally caused by an overly-rich condition, where raw fuel in the exhaust ignites due to heat.

I was backfiring a lot and I was told to check the valve lash and the distributor cap...my distributor cap is cracked and missing a bolt, have yet to replace it though.

It's possible. Are you throwing any codes? Is the car up to date on scheduled maintenance?

I am getting no cels and I just bought the car from happy honda (honda dealership) in jan so I had it for like almost 4 months. I also don't remember if it was doing this before or not lol.. it only back fires some times I was thinking maybe its because I have an exhaust.

do you have a catalytic convertor? b/c it happens during decel, makes me think the cats clogged or you have carbon build up on the injector causing it to leak.
