Tips to $ave When Buying a Fit?
My girlfriend wants to buy a FIT. Leaning toward the manual. Can anyone offer any buying tips when shopping for a FIT? Ways to get the best deal on a FIT?

Don't expect to pay less than MSRP, but I suggest having them throw in some free stuff with your car. I got them to throw in the floormats and some window tinting with mine. Hope this helps you out

If you are financing, ask them what Honda's prime rate is at the time and don't commit to it without looking at a local bank or credit union for a loan.
I just got my new Sport this past Monday and Honda's rate was not the best. I was fortunate enough to get 5.9% on my last one, but Honda wanted 8.25% this time!
I went through a local bank instead.

Buying a car is really quite simple but somehow the buyer has been fooled into thinking it's a complex process. This way the dealer profits more for consumers' ignorance.
The most important thing to remember when buying a car: NEVER OFFER ANYTHING BUT AN OUT-THE-DOOR PRICE for a car. That means you first figure out what the msrp is, add to that sales tax, add to that the destination fee, add to that the license fee. Make sure you add in the order stated (remember the distributive property in school). With that number you have a real out-the-door price based on msrp. If you think the car is worth less than msrp then just reduce the number you just came up with accordingly.
If a dealer tells you he'll sell you a car for msrp it doesn't mean they won't add other fees or markups on top of that. Be clear. Stick with out-the-door pricing.
Always offer the out-the-door price and say you're paying cash. Then when it's time to pay ask about finance options. At this point you've reduced the price as much as possible and it's within your control to add finance charges.
Always walk away or hang up the phone if you don't get what you want. You'll be amazed how fast they'll run after you when they know you're seriously leaving.

the dealers you want, send them emails and sit back as they fight for your business.
If one dealer makes you an offer, email all the others with that info and see what they'll
do to match other dealers offers.
In SF, Oakland and Berkeley, Fit sports are hard to come by. One dealer told us because of demand, there is a $3000 mark-up over the sticker price. For ***** sake. $3000???? Cars.com is the road were taking now. Hopefully you'll see pics of our new fit soon...

Deal with online divisions for car dealerships. They can make better deals. I got my '06 G35 for $200 over invoice fully loaded with a 2.9% rate.
Go to all your local Honda dealerships websites and email the online sales division. Tell them what you want and when you want it.

yea, for a fit right now dont expect paying less than MSRP and dont ever pay more than that, best way is to get free things and bust them like the floormats, or something

I disagree. I got my 04 S2000 brand new for under invoice pricing also. A car is a car and learning to negotiate a price is virtually the same no matter what you are purchasing. Unless you are getting an exotic, there is always room to bargain.

Have you seen sales number for the S2000? It's no secret you could
get at invoice. Try buying an 2000 model in dec of 1999.

yeah, last fall when i was looking at s2ks, i had dealers giving me deals of right at about $30k new. plenty of room for those to drop, and a low demand. the fit has an incredible demand, and if my buddy who is in charge of customer service at a Houston dealer is telling the truth, there is only somewhere around $500 mark-up in the Fit as it is.
if you are in the Houston area, go by John Eagle Honda on a Sundays. my mother-in-law went by there one sunday looking at fits and a customer service representative that was there to fill questions gave her a $250 off coupon for when she comes back in to buy the fit.
for others not in the Houston area, you may try your local dealers on a sunday and see if they do the same for you. if you save $250, it will be worth a trip to the already exciting honda dealer.

It kills me that Honda (and other manufacturers) limits release of cars to create a pseudo demand for new cars. But as long as people are willing to pay the mark-up they'll keep charging it.

Probably incorrect. Prime rate is very high right now compared to the past. I may consider one of these at the start of 2008.

I tell them I plan on financing. I get the price as low as possible over a few day period. Then when its time to sign I say Whoops, I'm paying cash. Always wins

In Northern Cali they do. It sucks! All I got was a sorry but we can sell them at above MSRP at this time. And due to circumstances I can't wait a few months for when they drop in popularity and price. So we're going to another Japanese econo box.

In 1999 I went to Redding to buy a new Odyssey after calling every dealer in Ca. For 16-18k it's worth shopping around a little. Bay Area dealers will expect to get high Bay Area deals on their Fits.
It kills me that Honda (and other manufacturers) limits release of cars to create a pseudo demand for new cars. But as long as people are willing to pay the mark-up they'll keep charging it.
