Default Has anyone sold a car to carmax?

I have a 97 Civic HX with 82,000mi that I am ready to rid of. From what I have heard the Honda dealership will more than likely not give me trade-in value for the car even though its in great shape. Has anyone tried to sell their car at carmax? Do they normally give trade-in value or is it possibly a little more? KBB lists trade in from $3200-$3600 in the good/fair range.

they lowball the hell out of you. post it in the marketplace, you'll have better luck of getting a fair price.

Only sell it to them if your in desperate need of cash! You'll have better chance getting more money out of a private sell.

Dont listen to those guys... CarMax does not low ball anyone..

They give a fair market wholesale value. The value they give you is the value that they can source the same vehicle or sell the same vehicle at Auction.

It makes no good business sense to pay more for anything than you have to.

Yes you can probally make more selling it on your own, but then in most cases there is advertising fees, personal time taken out of you busy life to meet potential buyers, your still paying your car payment/ insurance for a vehicle you dont want anymore.

Carmax is a simple, fast, and easy solution.

Give it a shot, its a free apprasial and it only take about 30 minutes.

P.S. If you have aftermarket equipment on you vehicle its not something that they can resell and they will appraise it stright for there wholesale auction and usually aftermarket parts hurt the value cause at an auction people have no idea the quality of the work and what type of damage could have been done to the vehicle by a backyard mechanic wrenching on the vehicle

My friend took his car to carmax and they ended up giving him about $2k more than their appraisal.

usually carmax gives u a decent price but ur cars value goes lower and lower depending on how many mods u have

the more mods
the lower the value.
