About to buy a used transmission

Hey Im about to buy a used GSR tranny. Is there a way to tell if the tranny has any grinds with out putting it on a car?

Make the sale conditional on successful inspection at a local trans shop that you will pay for. Meet the seller at a shop you both agree on and have it inspected. If there is nothing wrong with it, the seller should have no objections since he doesn't have to pay anything. If it doesn't work out then you are just out the inspection fee and some time.
