Sometimes... if the ECU is getting NO power, then yes. The car won't start or run.

my ecu went bad and had no light at all. so to answer your question yes.

well i have personaly never seen one go bad, i have seen chips go bad but not a ecu, i have heard of it thou, best bet is to try your ecu in a friends working car and vice versa
