Maybe some of you can clear this up
I am looking at buying a used 1998 Acura Integra LS with 97,000 miles on her. She is being sold for $6995 currently...
Today I took her out for a test drive and found she ran at about 3000 RPMs on the 5th gear @ 60-65MPH. Is that a little high on the RPM range? Somewhere I have read that this car does run high on the highway. Tomorrow i'll be taking it out again (I wasn't able to see it in daylight) and will get up to 75MPH, but im thinking it might actually need to rev at a constant 4000RPMs to maintain that speed. So, is this normal?
Also, i've looked into other Integra's around the same price and most of them either have more miles on them or the car is a few years older. This 98 also has a full set of new tires and looks pretty darn good inside and out. (From what I could tell in a well lit parking lot anyway) So judging from this information, does this sound like a fair deal?
Im 21, working my way through college, and used to drive my parents 93 plymouth voyager, well that is, until some lady rear ended me at 35-40MPH a week ago. This is my first car and im looking for something that is reliable, gets ok gas mileage, and is fun to drive.
If/when I buy my Integra, im sure ill be spending more time on these forums.

LS tranny has the longest gears, you might be thinkin of a gsr, which may have a little higher rpm on the freeway. I wouldnt worry about it, and if you want to be sure check the side of the tranny and make sure its an ls.
Seems a bit much for an ls but then again it is a 98. Id try and talk them down a bit. Should get good gas mileage for you and as long as its clean body would be a nice car.
LS-T FTW

Yea, im hoping to talk him down a few hundred this morning. Last night my dad offered 6100 on the spot but the dealer wouldn't take it. The kbb value of the car in "Excellent" condition from a dealer is about 7300. Private party value is about 5600....big jump in price for buying one at the dealership. But she has been fully inspected and all four tires are new. They also claimed the previous owner had said they had replaced the clutch, but they couldn't confirm nor deny it.
Thanks ForceFed, ill take a look at the tranny, any idea where on the tranny I should look to know whether its an ls or gsr? Im such a noob...haha

4000 rpm @ 80 mph if it's a GSR.
3,000 RPM @ 60 mph (if memory serves me correct) Sad I can't remember the RPM when I looked at it this mornign on the way to work.
What a n00b

I wouldnt worry bout it, even if it is a gsr tranny... score. But if its stock i doubt anyone would. I talked down the people i bought my car about 1500... bring cash

Yup, I will definitely try and talk him down as much as I can, i'll be heading over at 4pm today for a second (more thorough) look and test drive. If I buy the car, pics to fallow, if not, the search continues.
Thanks for your help so far guys
