Default ls/vtec swap, having problems, what engine harness and ecu to use

I have a 96 civic dx and swapped it with a ls/vtec engine. The block is from a 90 ls and the head is a 99 civic si. I used my original engine harness from my dx by splicing the wires to fit the connectors and a P28 ecu with a chip and conversion harness, but it runs weak.
It idles up and down by itself and runs like it's got a misfire.
Pretty much is as weak as my stock motor but with a mis. and bad idle.

What kinds of engine harness and ecu should and can i use, and is this also the answer to my problems listed above.

What should the ignition timing with a timing light be set at? I was told at zero degress, is this correct?

Thanks very much.

dude if its a stock block with stock head and b16 cams its gonna be weak. dont expect it to make like 180hp. its probably has like 150

dude if it runs as weak as your stock d15 then you've got problems. something must be wrong with the wiring. try using a wiring harness from a gsr. im running a 2000 si motor with an obd1 dizzy, and ive got an obd1 gsr wiring harness on it right now, runs great. i think the only thing you wouldnt hook up is the knock sensor, no knock sensor on the ls block. Obviously your not obd1, but i believe its all the same idea.

not sure on the whole timing thing since its ls/vtec, not sure if somethings different, i just match the lines on my b16. good luck man, sorry these other guys dont wanna try and help you out.

why would you want hook it up with a type r block, thats a waste of money.

yea something is wrong if its as weak as your d15. you should be making more horse and torque than a si. you should switch out the pistons, change the wiring harness and ecu to a si or gsr w/e you can get your hands on. you also need a good tranny. sorry but i know nothing about that timing crap though. i run a si with itr parts and and lsv is obviously a bit faster than si.
