Default driving my civic from mo to cali

Hey I was just curious on if its really hard on a car to drive it that far. I mean is it any different driving 1500 miles straight to driving a total of 1500 miles around town?

And what maitenence should be done before I leave?

Highway miles are easier on a car. things that I would check before a trip that long
1: pull the wheels off and inspect the brakes and suspension.
2: have the tires rebalanced and checked, replace any that do not meet spec and inflate to proper pressure DONT FORGET THE SPARE TIRE.
3: check all fluids, change the oil, if you have time flush the cooling system and check for leaks.
4:Inspect the exhaust don't want it falling off in the middle of the trip
5: Change plugs, wires, cap and rotor esp if it been a few years since your last tune up.
All of these are things that I will go over before a long trip. But If you keep your car in tip top shape, you shouldn't find much that needs done
6: Also I like to pack a small tool box with me and put it in a place that you can easly get to it. I pack the most common hand tools wrenches, sockets, tin snips, electrical supplies, ect. Put a gallon of coolant,1qrt of oil, rags and waterless hand cleaner like gojo. its nice to be able to clean up if you have to get dirty
7: don't foregt water and snacks for yourself incase you brake down in bum f#%k nowere. good luck

coming home one time, I had a fill tool bos in my trunk incase. I watched the brand new ford truck infront of my almost wreck when his tie rod end popped apart. I had a pickle fork in the car so i pounded the joint off for him.
Drove him the 1/2 hour to the next city with a ford dealer, he bought the part and ford drive him back.
I told him where I worked and the next week he brought me a case of beer.

moral of the story, if you do break down and dont have everything, there are still people willing to help.
