Check Engine Light on since purchase
I have a 1998 Honda Accord, LX. I bought the car back in November and after the FIRST time I put gas in it the light came on. When I called the dealership they said it was because the CO2 tank is very sensitive and it should go off. I had the car serviced in Feb w/ a full tune up and replaced the timing belt and the light is still on. The problem is, is that i need an emissions test this month to get new tabs and in Washington, you can't pass one w/ a 'check engine' light. Any ways to just reset it???? I know NOTHING about cars, in case you couldn't tell.
All your answers will be answerd in the accord FAQ's. If you reset it, the ecu will come up as not ready, and will not pass inspections. if you do reset it go for a ride down the highway a few exits and it should display either a malfunction code or will yell you everything is up to par.

Take your car over to AutoZone and have them check the code for you for free. Have them tell you the actual code (write it down), which should start with the letter "P". Come back and let us know what the code is. It might be something as simple as needing a gas cap.
Ahh yes, or it could be that your catalytic converter is gone and you replaced it with a test pipe so the damn ECU throws a code for malfunctioning cat.....erm....well, that's what mine is doing right now. Wish there was a way to get around it since I have to do emissions this year

Have AutoZone read the code. There's hundreds of things that MIGHT be causing it...
