what is a chipped ecu?
i tried to search but found no results. I'm just wanting to know what a chipped ecu really is before i buy one. I need an ECU so idk if i should buy a virgin or a chipped one. and are there any downfalls to a chipped ECU?
A chipped (or socketed) ECU is one which, as its name implies, has a socket where a chip can be plugged in. This chip can be programmed (often with a free application such as Crome or Uberdata) with custom fuel and ignition maps, VTEC crossover, rev limiter, etc., that will allow you optimise the settings to your particular setup.
