Default Skunk2 Coilovers w/ shocks

Just picked up the Skunk2 Coilover kit:

I got them new for 130$ and just bought them quick on eBay not realizing they didn't come with shocks. Now I gotta figure out which I should use with them. If anyone has any suggestions, let me know.

you just named the cheapest aftermarket shocks imo, those shocks can not handle the spring rates of the s2 coilovers and will fail prematurely

get kyb agx around 300
illuminas for around 400
koni yellows 500

I knew a integra that had these coils on stock shocks and it rode pretty good. I understand that its probably not the best setup to have but i drove it before and it rode pretty well IMO

hmmmm...ebay....well let me tell you my friends story. He bought a pair of these "skunk 2" coilovers on ebay, he put them on and with in a month they went to crap. They were horrible, now he got a set of Tein S.Techs from a local shop and they are awesome. Maybe he bought countefit stuff on ebay but i'd be iffy about anything on e-bay bro.

Yeah I checked, no worries. I've been ebaying for a while now, so I check for certain things. Thanks for the warning though.

Stay away from KYB GR-2's, they are direct STOCK replacement shocks. If you plan on going that route, save some money and blow out your stock shocks for free.

The most popular choices are anything Koni, KYB AGX, and Tokico illumina's. Its really a matter of how much do you want to spend because they all are good choices, just varying levels of adjustability and ride comfort.

lol everyone always talks about how crappy the Tokico blues are. I loved mine. I had them on my EG and my EK (same shocks, just changed them from car to car) with 450/350lb springs. Those may not be as hard as the skunks..but the car was freaking slammed. Not only did it handle better than a lot of cars on full height adjustable coilovers....but it was supercheap, and it was still going strong after more than 25-30k miles of HARD use...and potholes. Plus the cars were SLAMMED. The car rode great, and my friend with a more expensive setup was always jealous. I mean those other shocks are great, dont get me wrong...I just dont get why everyone's talking so bad about the Tokico blues.

here look.

^Because Tokico Blues are not performance shocks. To the OP, get Koni Yellows if you have the money, or Tokico Illuminas. Those are the two best choices (the Konis are the best). Both of these shocks are also stiffness-adjustable.

Here's a vote for Koni Yellows.

There is also a suspension forum, designed for this exact thread.

Was listed for 270$, I offered the company $130 for the hell of it not actually thinking they would accept, but seeing as its a wholesaler, they took the offer.

how are tokico blues not performance shocks? They're gas charged shocks. They also say "performance shocks" in the warranty manual somewhere im pretty sure.

Springs only sorta cause the bouncing. Shocks that either cant handle the spring rate or shocks that suck or are malfunctioning in some way or set up wrong make the car bounce.

The shock (damper) is what damps frequencies produced by the spring. If it cant do that, then it cant do its job...then its the shock. The spring can make it difficult for the shock to do it's job. Think of it this way:
Your job is to do paperwork for a doctor's office.
The doctor is a 50 year old lady that looks like your mom or something. She walks by you all the time, and says hi..but you can still do your job perfectly fine.
Then one day, Carmen Electra walks past you nude. You couldnt do your job.
Sure, it was Carmen that made you not be able to do your job (Carmen is the spring), but you're the one that couldnt do it (you're the shock). Had there been a gay guy there, he would have done the job (he's a better valved shock for the situation).

make sure you buy an adjustable setup. the stock replacements (kyb gr2, tokico blues) are junk.
