1988 honda accord wont idle and car dies
I have a 1988 honda accord with a manual transmission and it starts fine but it wont idle, it always dies. as long as you push the gas its alright but if you stop or start to slow way down it'll cut off. what can i do to fix it? any ideas?
When did you have your last tune up? That might be all you need to do - replace the fuel & air filters, Cap, rotor, plugs and wires.

Well ya forgot to mention that you just replaced the engine in your OP. What engine did you drop in = Was it a replacement A20A1,2,3 or BS,1,2 or a swap? You will need a vacuum diagram for your new engine.....if you don't already have one that is......

we put in an engine that came from a car that was totaled but the engine was still in good condition. when it was in the other car, it worked fine. my car didnt idle with the old engine and it still doesnt idle with the new one.
did you replace the fuel filter that is by the gas tank ?? my 89 accord did the same thing , i felt realy stupid after i found out i have 2 fuel filters lol it just a thought hopefully it works
Some people use a butane/propane torch...unlit of corse. stick the nozzle buy the vacuum fittings give it a little shot and if the engine idle increases bam...there is your leak. I have used throttle body cleaner to find leaks around the manifold before. Spray a little bit at the hose ends and if your idle drops..... hello......these are crude ways to find vacuum leaks. the best way is to get a vacuum pump/test gauge and look up in a service manual how to do a vacuum test.......
