Default So, my DA got a little fugged up tonight.

Taking a turn in normal non speeding fashion (I swear on my life) and either my tie rod popped out or my axle came out...here's the aftermath...

More pics are in the album:

It's dark out and don't want to look at it right now. I need to bust my *** to fix it tomorrow. Fugging ghey...

I'm guessing parts wise so far are:

Fender
A Arm
Axle (maybe)

its prolly your axle. My buddys hatch had the same outcome when he didn't put in the axles all the way in.

That's what happens when you do your own clutch and after 9 hours of ******* with it...something just doesn't go back in right or all the way...

My real question is, what all got damaged since I was dragging metal for a good 40 ft at about 20/30 mph?

axle coming out will not cause that, unless it somehow damages something else. The axle itself has no effect on suspension geometry.

From the looks of it I would say one of the ball joints came apart, either the upper or lower. It could have been the outer tie rod ball joint, but I don't see how that would have caused the fender damage.

Jack it up and have a look under there tomorrow, maybe take some more pics and let us know.

Will do, thanks.

Edit: After thinking about it, you're right. I think the axle was damaged AFTER one of the ball joints failed.

Yup...had been meaning to look at it...thought it was just the CV joint making noise since I knew it needed to be replaced.

Whoops...

Damage list...

Fender
Axle
New crown nut for lower ball joint
New cotter pin

...that's it! Not freaking bad...cause I was expecting the worst.

Should have it fixed today or tomorrow...thank god!

do yourself a favor , buy a new lower ball joint. looks like the lower ball joint came apart to me. just a fender , could be worse.

buy a new balljoint, and go to auto zone and rent a balljoint remover/installer. i would go with an OE balljoint if you can afford it.

Just curious, why go with a new ball joint? It looks fine, just that the nut came off.

Just replace it to ensure that this won't happen again. Not all metal damage is visible.

$48 for an OEM ball joint, the threads were definitely damaged. How does the auto zone tool work?

im pretty sure you didnt have your cotter pin in securely. my friend did the same with his EG when he was working on his front end after his LSV swap. the wheel tore up his passenger side fender just like that.

it's free, and a lot easier to rent the tool. you just have to put down a deposit.

it's basically a modified c-clamp that comes with some cylinders so you can press out the ball joint. it's pretty straightforward when you take a look at the tool.

you need no tool for balljoints on a civic. snap ring pliers thats about it. even than you can just use somin handy to get the ring out.

Always make sure you guys use the cotter pins! One of my friends didn't think they were that important and put his car into a tree going straight down the road.
