use heat on a ball joint?
My ball joint wont "pop" out so I was thinking about putting heat on it. will that wreck it? I am replacing the rubber boot so if that melts i could care less.
Also as much as I dred going to a dealer or shop I would but I know what they are going to say.
me-"so can you pop my ball joint on and repace the boot?"
them-"sure it will be $70 to do it."
me- "ok sounds good to me."
5 min goes by....
Them-"yeah we wont be able to replace the boot because the ball joint is actually shot."
me-"can you give me 5 min I need to lube myself before I bend over."

I've used almost everything.
-The good ol' fork
-The trick where you put the rachet between the control arm and jump on the hub.
-jacked the suspension up, put a poll under it and let the suspension down hoping it would pop.
-Used the honda tool from autozone... Basically the screw just dug into the metal.
-Used one of those tools where you clamp it on the a arm and then screw a bolt up and it puts pressure on the ball joint to pop it out.
-put wd40 on the thing and let it sit for awhile.
-hit it with a hammer.
I am trying to just pop it out to change the boot. Not replacing the entire ball joint.

Heat is a mess! it'll melt but the balljoint will morph and drip onto the arms and other suspension components.

So would chuck norris.
Hit the lower control arm on a good surface near the ball joint with a good size hammer/Dead blow (metal head) it will pop off.
As far as removing the ball joint try using a press. I've seen people hammering the ball joint out.
