Default crower camshaft question

i have a b18a1 enging just rebuilt with only 600 miles on it im lookign into buying a set of crower camshafts for it. i have seen stage 1 and stage 2 for it on most sites, and the stage 2 says you need the retainer kit. well on a site today that was selling stage 2 brian crower cams they stated did not need retainer kit would work with stock setup. is this true? im just trying to get some opinions on what to go with. i dotn want to spend a whole lot but i dont want to waste my money on stage 1 and not see no gains from it.

You know that Crower Cams and Brian Crower Cams are two different companies.I would think that a grind that didn't need new springs on a LS would be a waste of money.

I didn't say they were better or not, just that they are different. The point I am making is that the stock LS springs are far from being high performance.Any cam mild enough to allow the use of them isn't going to add much power.
