y8 tranny does not feel like a z6 tranny (HX trans in disguise b000)
Ok, to make the long story short...im running a y8 tranny on my z6 engine.
The thing is when I had the z6 tranny I would slam into second and I would hold redline and bounce off the rev limiter all the way through till I shifted to 3rd...Now that im running a y8 tranny its feels soooo differnt. Every single gear feels sooo long and when I shift into 2nd the rpms drop to about 5k and it feels slower...
Anybody ever have this prob or can it be something else?...nothing else on my setup was changed at all...just the tranny and a new ball joint passenger side.

Well, im aware that they are suposed to have the same gear ratios, but there is no way my clutch is slipping...act 6 puck with less than 10k miles.
And arent your rpms suposed to go up when slipping not down?...

Well, it was a little difficult to figure out exactly what you were experiencing, and since both transmissions have the same ratios, it sounds as if your clutch may have been slipping in the past. When you shift, your car shouldn't "hold redline", the RPMs should drop exactly as you've described.

Just two different versions of the 1.6L SOHC VTEC D-series. The Y8 is found in the newer 6th gen. Civics.

It's very rare, but a few 96-00 HX transmissions have the b000 stamp. (same markings on the outside as a y8 ex trans)
what mph does your 2nd gear end?
what rpm, what tire size.
if you can get me the three things above, I can figure out what transmission you have.
Anything else is going to be worthless in finding out which trans.
SO GO FIND OUT
i'm betting that it's the hx trans
1st = 3.25
2nd = 1.782
3rd = 1.172
4th = 0.909
5th = 0.702
fnl = 3.7222
a few HX's even came with 3.25 final drives

Ok well, Im boosting 15psi and always used to spin all the way through 2nd. I dont think I was ever slipping because it would bounce of the limiter and id be spinning like crazy...and I can actually feel the loss in power with this new tranny. Its so hard to explain lol.

Hmm, I'm not really sure what the issue could be then, assuming that it is indeed a Y8 transmission. Let us know what Bense's information turns up.

we talked and he has no prob replacing it with the correc tranny...he says it was a honest mistake and I beleive him...the tranny does infact have the same code as a y8 tranny so it fooled me aswell.
Also he says he personaly took it out of a 98 ex with the stock y8 so...idk...well see what happens.

I looked all around the tranny and it does not have that tag anywhere on it. I also checked out the z6 tranny i had lying around and that tranny does not have one either.
