Default '88 LXi... (Warm/Hot) Starting Problem

Here's an odd problem -- I think. If I try to restart my car within 5 to 10 minutes after turning it off I have a 50/50 chance of it starting right up. I then have to mess around with off/on ignition and working the gas pedal and eventually it starts. Now, if I try starting it after that 5/10 minute time frame I've never get the problem -- it starts like new.
The battery, starter, fuel pump, coil, injectors are otherwise strong performers. I'm baffled. Throw some ideas my way. I'll be happy to get some feedback that I haven't heard yet. Much appreciated. Ray

do you have anything running off electricity that could drain the power like subs without a capacitator?

The times when you try to start it, but it does not start what kind of sound do you hear if any?

Hey slomob18b: The sound the car makes is stong starter/battery, engine cranking like it wants to start... yet nothing. Whether I floor the gas or don't touch the pedal at all the problem remains constant. Then I wait a few minutes and try again. "BOOM" almost an instant start like no problem exists. Strange, heh? Thanks for your help. Ray

Sounds like its fuel related. Maybe you can try replacing the fuel filter.

Yo slomob18b, Fuel filter... that's how I was leaning, too. It's the intermittent aspects that really throw me. I guess I'll buy a filter tomorrow and see what happens. Thanks for sticking with me on this. Well, until next weeks problem... Ray

Sounds like the main relay to me. See if you can reheat the solder joints on it and try it again.
