well i will be getting a swap sometime in the future and was looking into a JDm engine.
b16 or 18. well i live in Chicao, Illinois if that matters, and i dont want any problems when i go for emission testing. will i have problems though? is ther a way to get around this. Or is my only option to get a USDm engine. if so any sites that sell usdm , because all i see is JDM

 

if you put all the emissoins stuff on the jdm engine then you should be able to pass..there is a few thread bout smog legal jdm engines, just search for it

 

When i lived in Cali, i had a 92 jdm b16 in my 99 civic ex and passed the smog dyno, but didn't pass the visual. $100 took care of the visual. I used the SI ecu and converted the engine to OBD2.

emission standards in japan are actually much strickter than in the states (even california!) so technically it should be ok, but i guess you would need all the perifs as well (cat, air filter, etc)

 

Its the other way around. A stock JDM engine will never pass smog in California. JDM engine's dont come with most of the smog equipment required in California and many other US states.
