I'm the proud owner of a 98 Prelude (H22A4) with a seized block. Chassis has roughly 120K on it, the engine was swapped at around 80K, and then rebuilt at 115K, according to the previous owner. Mods may or may not be relevant, so I'll list them first.

Neuspeed header --> removed cat --> A'Pexi can
Big-bore (unknown size) TB
True CAI
High-comp pistons (maybe Eagle?)
Stillen fuel regulator
High power ignition system
Koni/Eibach Struts/Springs (dropped 2")
DC Anti-Roll Bars (rear)
4th Gen Shift Linkage (original broke)

I'm not horribly abusive to it, but I do [did] get on it pretty often, and it has had a few top speed runs. Most of my abuse consists of nailing it in 2nd to get around someone in town or something, and then dropping back off right around VTEC. Occasionally on the interstate I'd run it to 90 or so before backing down again.

About 2 weeks ago, I was driving it down a nice twisty road, and was at WOT on a straightaway. Redlined in 2nd, grabbed 3rd, and then backed off around 80 MPH. Stop sign was coming up, so I popped it in neutral and started slowing down. About 50 feet from the stop sign, I noticed my power steering died. Figured it had just died from the WOT-idle transition, but when I went to start it, it wouldn't. It attempted to crank a couple times (I could hear it move for maybe 1/2 second before stopping again). I figured it was the starter at first, but after trying that, it wasn't.

After much troubleshooting and outside opinions, we're pretty sure my oil pump died, which caused my block to seize.

So at a minimum, I'm going to need a new block, pistons, rings, crank, rods, and an oil pump. I checked the head already, and springs/valves are all fine. I've called a couple places and they told me I was better off getting a whole new engine. They want about $3K to do this. Ouch. Especially considering I still owe money (quite a bit of money) on the car.

Is it possible/financially feasible to rebuild this; or is it hosed? If it could be kept around $2000 it'd be nice. I don't have to have performance parts on it. I'm planning on selling it after it's fixed anyway (long story involving fiance...).

I think it'll be better to get a whole new engine. Rebuilding it doesn't seem to be worth it.

I have a Crank and oil pump for a H22A4, and I will sell them to you at a reasonable price.

 

time to put a f23 crank and rods in

 

go to tigerjapanese.com and get a jdm h22a motor for about 1100 dollars shipped, it doesnt come with a tranny though you will have to get the obd2-obd1 conversion plug that goes into your ecu. thats the cheapest way

I got in touch with Anthony and he gave me a pretty decent estimate. Going to have an official one on Monday; then I'll examine the money situation and work something out.

Oh, his advice was to just get another motor, and just swap out what parts I want from mine (flywheel, TB, CAI, etc.).
