Alright, I'm somewhat new to the forums, but I want to know what people here thought about these cars.

I am considering getting a small hatchback type of car/suv or what have you. I don't know which one is the best.

I know 'best' has several meanings, but which is overall the best?

Here's my thoughts...

Obviously I am biased because I purchased a Fit. However, I have driven a friend's xA and been in some of the Yaris'.

The xA is a nice car. I liked some of the creature comforts inside the cabin that the Fit lacks. And believe it or not, the center mounted speedo and stuff is actually quite easy to get used it and comfortable to look at. I don't know if the xA has drive-by-wire technology like the Fit does, but, it seemed easier to drive.

Other than that, the Fit wins hands down to me. I don't even like the look of the Nissan Versa and I know nothing about the VW Rabbit, so, I can't say anything about it.

You just have to go look at these cars for yourself.

I was looking at the Nissan Versa because it seemed like it had more gadgetry, lol.

It has keyless ignition among other things.

I don't know... anyone else have something to say?

 

I hate the way they all look... besides the Fit obviously.

I thought about buying a scion at one time... but I didn't feel like owning a Scion.

My advice... test drive them all and see which "Fits" you best

 

Keep in mind the Versa's rear seats don't fold flat with the floor, and with the seats up, both the Versa and Xa have very small trunk space. In the Fit, even with the seats up, you could carry a medium sized dog, or a good amount of luggage, etc.

Fuel economy wise, the Versa is quite lacking from what I've read on different forums. Also, the Mexican plant in which it's built isn't known for making very well built cars. The car is heavier, quieter, and feels more "substantial" and some people like this.

The Xa in my opinion, is a pretty good deal, but the hatch (trunk area) is absolutely tiny, and despite official numbers, feels like it has less rear leg room than the Fit.

The same thing is true with the xB. Almost no room behind the rear seats.

I drove the Fit, xA, xB, Yaris, and Versa.
I bought a Fit.
It feels a LOT more connected to the road, and was a ton of fun to drive.

 

Test drive, test drive and then compare all the specs to match what you are looking for.

 

i was really open to several different vehicles as you are. the only two i test drove were the Yaris S and the Fit Sport. After driving the Yaris, I just couldnt really see myself owning one. i didnt really like the dash, especially not the center speedo. but the controls for radio and a/c were kinda iffy as well. and this one had the most upgraded dash that they come with(all digital).

i of course bought a fit. when i actually got to the honda dealership and looked at one in person, i got excited. right off the bat i liked it a lot better than the Yaris. I then test drove the one I ended up buying. definitely a sporty suspension, much more so than the Yaris.

 

I took my time and did all the comparisons, driving, reading, shopping, etc. and I ended up with the Fit, and am happy. It is the most fun to drive ! Period.
The versa has the 6 speed tranny, a better ratio and shift points. But not so cute.
The Scion had a cheaper feel, and seemed less versatile as to cargo.
But the Sport Fit had all the options, cruise control, CD, Lamps, Wheels, Body mouldings and you can't beat a Japanese built car, tight and reliable. Going with a Mexican built car would be a mistake. You don't want to find out. Get the Honda and sleep at night.

even though this is honda territory here so a bias would occur there is no doubt id rather own a fit over the versa or xa....hell i just traded in my 06 si for my fit

Ya i dont know about that. I was assuming it was more of a slalom course. Cones just set up in a straight line type of deal.

 

Yea they were talking about the Slalom course. The Fit has electronic steering which means it's way more responsive.

Good car for Auto Xing.

I actually saw a 2 of them at Auto cross last sunday. They pulled pretty good times for STX.

Bad for steering feel though. Hydraulic is much better. I'm not knocking the Fit, i'm actually considering getting a Jazz myself, i'm just reading up on them first. I didn't know they had electro-power steering.

I wonder if the slightly older Jazz's over here have hydraulic or electric.

I noticed the same thing during my test drive: very quick steering, but somewhat "artificial" feeling, almost toy-like. I think I could easily get used to it though.
