Current Vw owner wondering about integras...
Hello, i am a current VW owner (a 1996 gti) ever since ive bought it all ive had where problems. Its only a daily driver so its nothing crazy to look at. All im trying to do now is to find a beater/daily car inplace of my VW. So i came here to ask the reliability of a second gen integra which i think is early 90's if im wrong please dont rip me a new one haha. But I need a car that can make several 150-200mile trips with no problems. I know that the car i will prob be getting will have quite a bit of miles but thats ok with me. What are the main things id be looking for when it comes to repairs when looking for one. I know prob belts and ish. Any help would be useful!
I can't speak too specifically to 90-93 integra's... but I can tell you alot of these cars have been modified... most of them very poorly modified. try to stay away from cars that have been modified, it generally means they were driven hard and sometimes not cared for too well. alot of kids drive these cars, so you'll be looking at alot of cars that again, were probably not very well taken care of. These things will run forever if you treat them well though, so if you find one that was driven by one owner, especially if the owner was elderly, you may find that gem of a car. Of course, get it checked out by a mechanic. hope i helped.
Thanks for the info! Yea i bought my vw modded which was the dumbest thing i could have done! And it runs like crap now. Would you suggest buying from used dealers or private since most used dont always work with modded cars. Now are intergas cheap repairs for easy things?
i bought a 90 integra w no mods for $1,500 and drove it from washington to socal (16 hour drive) w no problems at all. i also made several comutes to la (about 100 miles) and even a few 4-5 hour drives to the bay area. look for a car thats stock, if buy anything moded u could be paying for sumbody elses mistakes in the future, believe me i still am
i have a 88 and a 97 and they are great, very easy to work on, reliable and i make long trips about every 5 months, about 1600 miles both ways and they still run great, just do regular maintenance and the other guys are right, do not buy a modded car because they have been beatin up for sure, hope this helped
try going to an acura dealer and seeing if they have wholesale integras. i bought my 98 dc2 for 4800 w/ 125,000 miles wholesale. ive seen quite a few gen2 tegs get traded in, usually clean. lowest miles seen 88,000 and highest 230,000, i think the 88k got wholesold for 2800 and the 230k for 1100. so go shopping........
