How to tell if frame has been straightened?
As I dig deeper under the skin of my teg, its history is slowly revealed. Tonight I just noticed some more repair welds where factory spot welds should have been, it is evident that the whole right side of the vehicle has been moderately damaged. The Front fender has been replaced along with the rear fender that had been cut and rewelded into place. The door was either repaired or replaced also as nothing on the right side had a vin tag.
Well, tonight I just noticed a couple of the holes on the right side of the undercarriage were elongated in a diagonal direction like someone had attempted to straighten the frame. Is that the only reason these holes would be elongated?
I checked something that's been bothering me also and the right front wheel does sit back about 1/8" closer to the fender than the driver side.
It's also strange that the carfax showed a clean vin# when I bought it. Unfortunately, I didn't have enough experience to recognize the damage at first inspection.

take it to a frame specialist. if the frame has been rewelded though, then yes, someone has messed with the frame, and yes, most likely from the accident it was in.
carfax does not tell all. only what was reported.

Yeah, that's a very expensive ignorant mistake to deal with. The car should have been totaled. Perhaps someone got in a wreck with a ditch or telephone pole. I've decided to buy a cheap EG hatch and transfer the components then take the chassis to the scrapyard.
