Default Claying the motor

I have CTR pistons , pr3 head, buddy club IV's, and a .044" cometic gasket in my LSVTEC setup. I am aware the process of claying, but thats not with VTEC. What do you do to check clearances for the VTEC lobe?

Very nice. But this is going to be a pain in the *** with the motor already in the car. But it must be done.

how many headgaskets do you end up using up if you are doing this to your motor?

I personally keep an old 81mm .030 head gasket around to reuse over and over for claying different motors.

This just sucks because I'm not wasting a Cometic .044 to do this

When I clayed my motor, I used a .062" copper gasket, but then I actually ran with a .074" cometic. So after claying the motor I calculated with a .012" difference. If you can find a used stock gasket you can try the same thing.

There was just a thread about checking P2V clearance with the head still on. You have to have a dial indicator and adjustable cam gears to do it. Basically set the engine to TDC and set the dial indicator to read one of the intake retainers on cylinder #4. Then loosen the intake cam gear adjusters and turn the cam until the valve makes contact with the piston. Now zero out the indicator and move the cam back it's intended position on the cam gear. The dial indicator will read the P2V clearance. Write that down and tighten your cam gear adjuster bolts back down. Now setup the dial indicator on the exhaust retainer and do it again...

And to lock the head in VTEC you can either swap the locking rods in the rocker arms (like shown in the link above) or use compressed air in some service port on the head to do it. I don't know exactly where the port is, or what the fitting size is, but I think it's detailed in the helm manual...

The port is just around the corner on the front of the head (exhaust side) just a few inches away from the vtec solenoid, it's just a 10mm bolt/washer. It is a metric thread, and I got my air compressor fitting custom made by a member on this board. If you use the air method you have to plug an oil port inside the head, kinda on the other side of the vtec solenoid. damn i wish i still had a digital camera to hook up the illustrations.

It would be easier to dissassemble the rocker arm assembly
