Default Painting a "Pink" hatch

OK, so I am buying a straight bodies 92 CX hatch that was once a beautiful red but has oxidized into a fantastic "Honda Pink". I am intending to repaint this bitch, but want to do it a flat/satin black. Is there a paint out there to do this with that is NOT just primer? Like, is there a tractor paint or something that is a satin/flat black that wont look like ******* after it is applied? Any Insight would be appreciated.

my friend painted his bumper with this like Krylon paint made for BBQ Grills or something and it came out like satin/non glossy black.

No, pretty much no matter what you paint it with you are going to get that absolutely shitty effect. That is, unless you go with like a professional satin paint job.

Look up John Deere Blitz Black.Alot of hot rodders use and so do alot of Aircooled VW people. It gives you a satin efeect, plus it has "teflon properties" so nothing sticks to it.only downside is you can never paint directly over it because of that teflon effect.

You need to look into some paint companies to see if they make a flat black. If you're painting your car with a flat black, w/o a clear coat, you need to use a paint with UV protectant in it (which clear coat contains). Without the UV protectant your paint will be **** within a year or so. May want to try custom paint companies like http://www.houseofkolor.com/hok/index.jsp. I can't get on and look for you cause I'm at work and it's a blocked site. Maybe even check with a local jobber that deals DuPont Paint products, or PPG products. Please don't just use an aresol can to paint your car, I see so many of these and they look just utterly horrid.

You should just check out some local shops in your area and see what kind of paint they carry and get their advice on satin black. Hell, estimates are free... just get a ballpark figure of what most places will paint your car for. Its flat black so even a shitty maaco or earl shieb couldn't expletive it u that bad.

What about the 50.00 paint thread using rustoleum. Those come out pretty nice.

I know for sure there is a flat black out there that's for professional use (not in an aresol can), and drktorn may be right, there could be some sort of UV additive that you can mix into the base coat black. Checking with a local everyday bodyshop may not help, I would seek out a custom shop, they most likely deal with it more often. And don't ever take your car to Maaco or any kind of **** hole like that. If you get it done professionally it'll probably cost you a good $2k-$3k to get an over-all on your car (done right, R&I Trim, handles, moldings, lamps, refinish jambs, etc...) but if you have the equipment to do it and a place to do it, it would be a fun side project.

This is a horrible comparrison but the look I am ultimately going for is the look that Skunk2 has on their cars. It look slike a satin, but again it could be a flat black or hell it could een be a black with a clearcoat that is hazy. expletive I dont know.

Skunk2 doesn't paint their cars with Krylon. Call some local paint shops instead of wasting our time with your inane little questions. We have an appearance/cosmetic forum for this kind of drivel anyway.

Flat black is played out as **** and look likes butt on almost everything

I'm with you on it looking like butt, black is hard to keep clean and IMO I think flat black always looks dirty as hell...not a fan of it.

I agree, just lay down a nice BC/CC paint job on it, nothing flashy, go with a factory color. It'll still be a sleeper. And if you absolutely want it to look like complete crap on the outside with a "500HP heart" then use flat black spray paint, who cares if it lasts.
