anyway to check if piston rings are ok with head off block?
i got a few spare blocks around and some were have said to smoke a lil.. the head gaskets looked ok when i took apart.. i know u can kinda push sideways on the pistons to see if they shake a lil but i think a tiny bit of movement is normal but any other ideas to check rings or isnt it poss like that

no. but while the head is off, all you have to do is zip off the oil pan and yank the pistons. maybe 20 mins more work if you have access to a cordless impact.

ya i know i can take them out but just by looking at a piston with rings on it i wont be able to tell much if theres no major wear.
