Did seafoam ruin my engine?
97 ex
this may sound dumb but very soon after i put in seafoam on an empty tank and then filled it up i started noticing a decrease in power and t hasnt gone away. was i not supposed to put it in the tank? whats going on!!!
Whats seafoam? Your not talking about gas tank cleaner crap are you?
edit: that doesnt look like a product you should be placing anywhere near a car. I don't know about you but the only thing that goes into my gas tank is gas

yeah well i got te automative **** of course. i picked it up at autozone i remember someone on this forum saying it gave them at least 2mpg after they did it
Did you read the directions on it?
How long ago did you put it in, it's very possible that you'll regain the power once it gets worked out of the system, try running your car down to E and then refueling.

basically it feels like i have to press harder on the gas to get the same speed especially in the first three gears. im not saying i KNOW its the seafoam but it just started around the same time.
the bottle didnt have directions but it did say what would happen if put in the gas tank (clean the injectors)

seafoam works wonders for me, and everyone else i know. just follow the directions
...your only suppose to mix so much per gallon of gas, maybe you over diluted your gas?

The bottle actually does have directions.
Did you pour the whole can into the fuel tank?

DING DING DING!
THE WINNA!
This is why your car is fukked up now.
It says on the bottle pour 1/3 for 12gal of gas.
I hope you learned from this to NEVER listen to autozone people.

my gas tank is already half empty so should i just fill it up to dilute the seafom????

lets see here.
bottle says 1/3 per 12 gallons of gas.
so 3X12=36
You would need 36 gallons of gas to dilute it down assuming the fuel filter isn't all fukked up already.

okay so how will i know if its fucked up or not? after i fill it up if the problem goes away can i not worry about the fuel filter or should io replace. i heard its a bitch without the right tools (which is my case)
I wouldn't worry about it too much...I fog the shyte out of my car with that stuff until it's about to die all the time mind you I direct inject it into my intake. If it's in your tank it will just take a bit of time too work it's way through.......it's the seafoam that is causing the low power....buy itself seafoam will actually make your car stall out or quit, so right now you have enough of a mixture to at least run your car...if your @ half a tank now I would fill the tank the rest of the way with premium/higher octane fuel and you should be fine. may still act a bit weird but to be expected with a full can in there. Run it down to E and fill your tank with regular gas. By this time your whole FI system should be pretty clean, you may need to replace your filter as mentioned above.
lol.
yes, there are directions on the can... on the back. and never get advice from autozone employees.
that aside, seafoam is 100% petroleum based and is not harmful to your can in any way, unless you dump too much into the intake and hydro lock your engine.
just burn off that tank and fill up with fresh gas.
its made to be used in gas, oil, diesel, intakes, everything... its a petroleum based carbon cleaner. i used a can of it on every swap i do, as well as every so often on my own car, always had great results. one time i was throwing O2 and Fuel Supply codes, and a can of seafoam thru the intake cleared them, never to be seen again...
great product...

Ohh man (LOL)
I'm dying over here.....
How can you put something in your gas tank or car period without reading the instructions or what the product may do to the car.
I've used seafoam for about 5-6 years on more than 30 cars and all had great results *****When used correctly****
Now in your situation, I believe you should empty your gas tank manually and possibly run the highest octane you have in your state to clear all the Seafoam out.
Good luck, and take a couple of seconds next time to read.
