What year is this F23
I received a free F23 engine that I'm going to try and sell since I don't have the room to store it anymore. I know it is an f23 motor from an Accord LX or ex around 98-02. Is there any more info i can find from the motor tags itself? Like what exact year or model. I was given to motor for free and the PrevOwener knows nothing of its past. I know the motor is in fine shape and it turns over and has everything on it. But I would like to know as much info as possible. Is it worth it to part it out or sell it whole. Its got everything on it excluding a tranny. Whats the value for a whole motor? I'm heading to a swap meet and was thinking of asking 350$ is that too much to little or what?
where should i look for stamps on the block that would help me gain more info? and what places would help me decode them. Thanks

I think the first digit of the serial number tells you the year, based on when the engine type was first available. Yours is 3 so that's model-year 2000.
0 = spare parts engine, not factory-installed in a car.
1 = 1998
2 = 1999
3 = 2000
etc...

Thanks for the help Jim. And I visited that link before I posted that how i knew it was 98-02.
So is it worth to sell whole or part out? Any suggestions or price range I should be looking for?

Oh.
If it was third year then shouldnt it be f23a4 and not 1?

Well, I was just going by what he said in the top post. And I wasn't aware that the F23A1 was a one-year wonder. That would make the accordinglydone table incorrect, because it says F23A1 goes from 1998 to 2002.

it's not, I've swapped an a1 from 2000 into my car in one of my various motor swaps. unless of course the boneyard was BS'ing me but I doubt it.

Yep, the F23A4 is the ULEV motor found in Cali, and some other random areas of the country. The F23A1 was present for all years, 98-02. I've only seen one F23A4 with my own eyes, because the ULEV Accords were only available in my area by special order. And honestly... How many people who special order?

The F23A1 is Fed spec, and the F23A4 is the ULEV California spec....for emissions. Most cars will be F23A1, but if it is an A4, you will see ULEV in big letters on the valve cover.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_F_engine has all the years and models of the Honda F series engines. I wont vouch for it but seems correct.
Lives in pa and i have a 2000 accord coupe that has an f23a4. BIG ULEV with a little vtec on the right of it. I wasnt aware you had to special order that engine tho.

Sorry, I had meant to type that in my area (Houston) you have to special order it. Just edited that post...
