Default Is this Toda A or B? (with pic)

First of all, can anyone tell this is Toda A or B cam? (Yes, it is a used cam) How is the condition from this picture?

Secondly, I need more advise for which cam I should put on my b16a motor. I have following concerns:
- Tight budget, only have enough for a camshaft and ecu tuning. (CTR valvetrain will be using)
- For Daily drive / track use. (i'm more concern how much gains in whole powerband I can obtain compare with the CTR cam that i'm using now; mid-range is more concern than max hp ***5300rpm - 8,000rpm***)
- Looking for 180WHP

Yes, I will stick with CTR valvetrain. However, thats why I'm struggling for picking jun 3 cam because I don't think CTR valvetrain can go further than 8600rpm? Hence, I really hope someone can lead me to a correct decision.

*My choice: Jun 3 / Toda B / Spoon

Thanks in advance!

it might be a Toda A.

i just picked up Toda B's and the VTEC lobe is only 1mm higher than the other 2.

also, see if you can get pics of the end of the cam. there's actually a mark that will say 'A' or 'B' and stuff on them.

by the looks of it top cam... it looks like a Toda A. On a Toda B Cam the lobes look almost the same size. With an A cam you can use the CTR valve train, but revs over 8200 are risky. Toda B or June 3 are bigger cams and will need valve train or you will float some valves.

Look at the end of the cam, there should be a B or A on the end (opposite of the gears) this will tell you what they are.

If you are looking for 180whp, it is a little harder then you may think. More compression and a port job should get you there.

BTW stay with a Stock timing belt too !

Thanks for the replies.

Base on my condition, using CTR valvetrain, b16a, aim for mid-range, daily driver / track use, so there is no way to pick Toda B and Jun 3, right? Then which cam would you pick?

1. Spoon
2. Toda A
3. CTR

Noted with going over 8200rpm is risky? But isn't the TR can go to 8400rpm too? And some ppl told me TR valvetrain can take up to 8800rpm.. Is it true?

TODA stamps their cams...so look to see what yours are. should be on the side.

So which cam would you pick if Jun3 & TodaB are too much for my motor? Strict with using CTR valvetrain & B16A block.
- Spoon?
- Toda A?
- Stick with CTR?

Mods on my car:
- CTR valvetrain
- CTR cam
- CTR piston
- B16A block
- Spoon TB
- Spoon N1 catback
- Spoon flywheel
- Mugen 4-1 header

Aim for:
- Better mid-range
- Daily driver + track
- 175-180 whp

Should say A, B, or C on the side distributor side of the camshaft. If these are from an online seller, have him/her take a pic of that.

Yes, I think it is Toda A. Thanks for all the help!

Btw, I'm thinking of putting on jun 3 cam and keep reving it below 8400rpm with itr valvetrain, is it safe?

i think it's "recommended" that you run stronger valvesprings if you're going to use a cam that aggressive like the Jun3's.

The Toda B work well on the mid range on the B16. We ran them with good success on a street car. We made 184whp and 121Wtq. Compression was only 10.8~11:1. The problem you are running into is the valvetrain.

your best bet you probably be the Toda A.

Good Luck

regamaster - what kind of set up was on the B16 you guys dyno'd? i just picked up a set of Toda B's and was told they have a fat midrange power band. (mine are going into a B18C(R)) thanks, and sorry to go OT.

Thanks for all the info.

Since without better valvetrain, probably mild cams is my only choice. And i'm thinking whether I should put a cam gear on the CTR cam and programmable ecu to tune it on dyno.

What you all think?
