Default axles

about three weeks ago i was driving and my wheel fell of and i slid a bit on my brake roater.i took my car to a shop and left it over night to do an aligment. they left my keys in the car and a note when i picked it up later that night, says i need a new d/s axle. i was just asking would it be something that i could do my self? or if i take it to a shop how much shuld i pay.

clifs: bad axle hard to change myself, or how much should i pay?
