Default Paint Job and Prep or a 94 LS (update april 19) 56k doesnt deserve to live

UPDATED MAY 7th!!
ITS DONE SCROLL DOWN AND FEAST, ILL HAVE SOME HIRES ONES LATER THIS WEEK.

Due to popular demand, I've put the new pics at the bottom of this post

April 19th, well this is the last update before everything is painted, there are a few shots of the doors where the fiberglass was used over the welds, and you can see the doors came out perfectly straight.

April 18th:
The man in red is the man behind the paint and glory, thats Art, and he's responsible for the 8 inch thick clear over the gorgeous color which no one has been able to guess yet!

and covered in **** and what not

APRIL 16th:

welp, here it is, the color.

Thats without all the clear, and unbuffed etc. We just threw some on the fuel door to check out the color, and well....you can see.

Here's some pics from today of the wetsanding the black undercoat.

Black interior, ignore mdx fender, it was just sitting there for a minute.

Well this is the majority of the body work completed, all the window edges have no been ground down, the roof has been flattened, the doors are smooth, the fenders need a little smoothing which was done after I left (6 hours of using a wire wheel was enough for me) so here's the pics. I should have all the primed, and some painted photos tonight. Also, because the jackass who owned it before me didnt prime the front bumper, all the paint is cracking off making the bumper unpaintable. I ended up buying a new 98 bumper and headlights so that should make this look even nicer.

UPDATED MORE PICS AT BOTTOM OF PAGE

Well I was planning on selling the car, and having the rear quarters cleaned up real quick and a nice cover of imola red laid down. As the prep sterted, what appeared to be light surface rust turned into just detroyed fenders with pounds of bondo under the paint everywhere. I decided at that point to keep the car, and strip the car down as far as possible. This so far is the first 2.5 days of work in the car. The black stuff in some of the pictures is Pour-15, some super strong rust inhibitor. When I bought it the guy at the paint store yelled at me saying there was no way to remove it from flesh, and it would take literally 6 months+ for the skin it soaked into to grow out. Well, here's the pics so far, I'll try to add more on Monday and Tuesday when it gets primed.

APRIL 23rd
Well the chasis got painted today, pretty much everything went smoothly, we found two errors in the roof which we touched up real quick with some 1000 grit before painting, only problem ended up with the hood, and now we have to sand it back down and repaint it. Some how one of the fittings on the gun came loose, blew moisture right into the clear

As always, here's way too many pictures:

mm mirror clear

FLAT

SHINY!

FLAT

SHINY!!

FLAT

SHINY!!

And its all painted...all of it.....yessss. I'll have assembled photos tomorrow and final buffed and sanded photos on thursday!!!!

OOOOH YEAH

Oh snap more pictures I took while putting the guts back in. Doors aren't aligned and the glass isn't in yet, but damn seeing the color on a large area is impressive.

And I defucked the exhaust a bit

DONE

Getting the buff on

And shabam

Alright, got another day in, more rust proofing, more welding, more grinding, blah blah blah. And of course, I found more rust.

First layer of rear sealing

Sound deadening and undercoated wheel well. All the factory caulk/sealant was gone over with new silicone sealant, then sealed with undercoating. In areas where metal was showing we used Pour15 first.

Art grinding the welds from the molding holes

Redone wheel wells

welds were sealed from inside an outside with pour15 and undercoat on the inside

Running board area was fully sealed with pour15

This was hell. The intire inside of the fender and all edges, bolt holes, and mating areas were completely ground down, then the intire fender was covered in pour15

All weld holes covered in pour15 after being ground smooth to the body

Hood inside was sanded and the outer edge/roll of the metal was completely sealed with pour 15

more filled holes

Art grinding more

antenna hole and spoiler holes sealed and welded

roof line sucks ***, most was ground out, the rest will have to be hand sanded smooth

and more grinding

Looking good... I'm not really a body expert, so what is por15?

Wow, you really love that Pour15 huh? Isn't the inside of the fender a little overkill? I've never seen those rust. I have to do pretty much the same thing to my EG but with more rust. Damn Wisconsin huh? Really good work. What body filler are you using?

mine just looked like surface rust too, but we found out the fender previously had bondo on it and was mutilated beyond belief. To use the por15 you need to take the surface down to metal, it says you don't have to, but you do for a good bond. Then just apply a thin first coat, allow it to dry, apply a second coat. Then just do your fiberglass filler on top of the por15. Make sure to coat the wheel well from the inside as well as the outside layer. One layer is the exterior of the body, one layer is the exterior layer of the inner wheel well, the final layer is inside the car behind the c pillar where the sheet metal meets.

Oh and por15 is basically a rust prevenative on heroin. The stuff is really really nasty and if u get it on any exposed flesh, it penetrates and takes about 6 months for it to grow out. I coated the inner front fenders just cuz, lol. I had a ton of extra undercoat and kinda figured why not? I recoated all the factory surfaces that had been undercoated, and extended the coverage a bit.

oh and the fenders had been repaired previously and all the hammer marks on the inside had begun to surface rust, and alot of the edges were rusting as well, so I just went to town on it.

If anyone is curious how to make you want to kill yourself, paint your car in high gloss black when you finish the body work. 8 million more little dents appear. We're painting it in high gloss black to find everything, and tomorrow I should have some pictures of its final color. I saw the gas cap today in the final color and wowzers nine million.
