the J at the beginning of the VIN just signifies the final assembly of the car was done in Japan.
Doesnt mean its JDM. Kick your friend in the nutts, and tell him unless there is a steering wheel is on the right, it isnt JDM

I'm sure if you had a JDM lude or JDM car for that matter you would definitely know. If only I would have come up with something like this to post. Could have been sig material.

Bahaha! He must have one of those left hand drive JDM cars.
Punch him in the groin and smack yourself also

all 4th gen and 5th gen preludes were assembled (made) in japan, a set number of those were made RHD over there, and a set number of those were sent here. they are all japanese built unlike say a civic or accord, but they arent truely jdm unless they were made to be sold in japan and japan only. edm preludes are slightly different from the jdm but those were also made in japan and then sent to europe. the TDM (turkish domestic market) have probably the most rarest of all 4th gen foglights, ive only seen a picture of one single prelude with the tdm fogs, if anyone could get ahold of tdm theyd probably have the most rare of all 4th gen parts including all mugen aero parts
god i cant find one... its been years and years since ive even thought of these. did a search on preludeonline, cause thats wehre i first saw them, but all the pics are dead and the threads havent been updated since 2003 the threads are still definately there, just no pics. they probably most resemble 5th gen fogs but they fit exactly in the oem location for the fogs, like i said they look like 5th gen fog lights not spot lights like what we are used to
I have a JDM Prelude and as far as i know the differences between the JDM and European Domestic Market Prelude are:
Indicators on the right hand of the steering wheel
Come with slightly more power with a different compression ratio
Fog light attached off the middle of rear bumper (instead of being mounted inside the right of the rear bumper)
Wind deflectors (not really used in Great Britain)
And a Flare
