any A/C gurus here? need ideas..
So I never had working AC since I bought my car, but never really needed it till I moved to Vegas. I tried recharging it once when I first bought it and had a few broken pipes from the previous owners fender bender. So here we are now. I bought all the tools needed instead of paying a shop 200 to find my leaks and a charge. So now I own the manifold gauge set and electronic leak detector (which is the **** BTW).
I found my leaks and repaired those. I have pulled vaccum, and can charge the system to 35lbs or so. I cant replace the drier, literally because of anther issue, but even if I dont the system should still get cold for intial testing purposes. My only last resort is going to be the thermal expansion valve. What do you guys think?? After that all has been replaced, aside from major components. TIA
All work has been based off this link..

being that you never had a/c before, i would just go ahead and pull the drier and have that replaced, along with a the new expansion valve. make sure you flush everything really good. over time moisture and dirt, will enter the lines, just do it now, so you don't have to do it again. Nick
yeah, TXV is next I guess. The issue w/ my drier is 2 things.
1) the replacement from checkers, napa or others is mostly the same kind, but different size and shape from oem. It doesnt fit in alloted space.
2) The threads are now f'd and fuzed on connecting pipe from drier to condensor.
Thus leaving the only solution to be A: finding a drier that fits, and getting a new pipe from a junkyard, which all these bastards wanna sell the whole damn AC system not part it out.
The only other long shot prob, could be my jdm climate control. Maybe the evap temp sensor doesnt work, but thats more paranoia than any fault of my install skills or bad sensors..
