8.5 inch wide rim can take up to something like a 235 or 245 series tire. That doesnt mean it will fit without rubbing anything. Why would you get a ticket for wide tires?

its against the law for the tire to exceed the wheel well and to answer your question my buddy got 235 40 17 and his do rub. mine do not rub I got lucky

The 2000 EX (I guess he means 4 cylinder) has 15x6.5s huh?
Then absolutely a 205/55-15.

i meant 15x6"...the v6's are 6.5"
either way, 205/55-15 was the way to go
