Default b20 vtec with a ls tranny

i am starting my ls vtec build and saw that the b20 might be a better choice than a b18b1 block im still undecided on that but wanted to know how a b20 would do with a ls tranny good or bad i plan on boosting it but i dont want to use anything other than my ls tranny any ideas guys?

the ls tranny will be basically the same with the b20 as it would with the b18. b20 would be good for ls-vtec because of its bigger bore, but if you plan on going boost you better keep in mind doing something about its skinny *** walls.

Is exactly all it is, the b16 head does Not outflow the Gsr head,
they flow higher/lower in different areas, but they are about Exact.

So w/e you can get cheaper, get, because unless you get a type-r head, it won't make much difference.

funny thing is here in ga i have found type r heads at the same price as gsr and si ones around 450-500 for a complete head im still trying to do research on various forums to find out what would be best for my setup keeping the ls tranny is a must do to how much its worth so with that in mind looks like the block question has been answered on here b20 not good enough due to smaller walls for boost. thats funny cause i have seen vids of turbo b20's and they move like nothing else and i know of some 600hp motors here in ga that have b20 vtec's so im still confused on what to get

go b20, i have a b20, gsr head and tranny,i got my longblock for 400 bucks, if your planning to stay all motor go b20, if later down the line you plan on going turbo then the ls block would be better. But am happy with the performance of it

I ran a LS transmission on my turbo gsr, it was good for out of boost driving, and it was cheap as hell, i couldnt afford the $800 for a GSR at the time, and i had a spare LS so i ran it.

If you can, swing for a GSR or B16 Transmission, in eaither case the shorter gears will benifit you.

As far as your block choise, I would go with the LS/Vtec over the b20 Vtec setup if your plan to boost, and eaither way its a great investment to drop in a set of rods/pistons in the LS, at the very least upgrade the stock rod bolts.

ok ht dont flame me but im keeping it with a ls tranny cause the car is gonna stay automatic i have a fully built level 10 tranny so thats why my tranny choice must stay ls now for the block question b20 or ls ive heard dont turbo the b20 and some for it im trying to get the most reliable set up i can for boost the goal is to have around 300 or hp to wheels and to make it a dd any more than 300 and im know im sure to have traction problems the tranny i have built for it is rated to hold up to 500 hp the guys that built it for me at level 10 told me i could go up to 500 but it would be safe to stay around 350-400 ish so im thinking 300 will be great im doing this project to be different i know a manual project would be much easier but i want to go a different route so hopfully with the help of ht,ti,and other various forums i post on i can get this build going along nicely so keep the post coming. so lets hear some more ppl for the b20 or more for the ls i need to buy this block soon to keep on schedule for my christmas drop in

The most reliable way would be a sleeved block. Find someone with a block that cracked a sleeve and buy it cheap. Have it sleeved and bored. GSR block if you can find it. Pick your displacement too.

And you said 600+hp b20's. I seriously doubt that power is on stock sleeves.

So, is that a stock auto tranny?

no like the other guy said its a fully built level 10 tranny not stock that cannot change it is a ls tranny with a better gear ratio than the stock one im not sure how much better due to me not bolting it up cause my motor is not complete yet but im on here to find out what i can use for a block for this ls vtec project once i get that down ill continue to post and do research on what i need to do to build it correctly i did my research on the tranny and got what i needed to make this project last me know im moving on to building the motor so thats why im posting to find out what i need for my block b20 or ls then ill move on to the head gsr,si, or type r i can get all of them for basically the same price here in ga its just what is gonna work best for my overall package im looking for 300 or so hp to the wheels with boost and this can be easily done im using aem ems for tuning so help out ht.

i would go with the LS motor. but if u have questions go to b20vtec.com
LS motor u can use b16 pistons gsr pistons and etc.... b20's you can only use b20 pistons.. and plus the walls are incredibly weak, any scent of det. and ur done for. just my 2 cents
