Transmissions Transmissions Transmissions!
Hey fellas, well I'm pretty much screwed...my 1991 CRX HF transmission took a dive on me but luckily a fellow guy from honda-tech told me he had a spare transmission from a 1989 CRX HF, so since it's the same (number of shaft splines on shaft...20), I went ahead and bought it from him.
Well I got it finally...take it out, count the splines, and sure enough it's 21 splines...so it's from a 1988 CRX HF!
So now I'm waiting to hear back to him since he told me it was from a 1989, but most likely I'm screwed because how am I supposed to use it now?
There's no way I can get it to work is there???
Damn...I've been waiting to get my car on the road and it's killing me from thinking I just wasted $200!
Thanks fellas for any input.

I hope so...but another crappy part is that I bought the clutch kit for a 1989 CRX with 20 splines so now I'm gonna have to deal with the return shipping, and return fees this place has...I'll be getting screwed one way or another. I should have waited to buy the kit after getting the transmission but DHL lost it on its way here for days. I had to write a nasty email telling them if they didn't tell me where my package was and when it would be here that I'd contact the local news that does stores on poor business practices.
So they overnighted it the next day...today at 3pm is when it got here!
This just sucks ***...I hope it isn't as a pain to get a shop to install it for me with all these mix and match years!
I'm gonna have to request the clutch place to exchange it for a 1988 Clutch kit, same price but I'll have to pay the shipping both ways and pay a 20% exchange fee (BS if you ask me).

All you need to make that tranny work is a new clutch plate from an 88 D engine
Any d tranny will fit just as long as the spline count is right and its cable for cable or hydro for hydro

Yeah, all you need is a new clutch plate, which you should probably replace if you have the transmision out. A new factory one from Majestic Honda is like $60, so you will still be under the $300 cost of buying a local transmission.

I'll admit, I'm not sure about the flywheel, but I'm pretty sure the hf has different hubs too. I guess it doesn't matter if the inner cv shaft has the right number of splines for the trans, but I don't know if they do or not. **** I should have just kept my mouth shut

The inner CVs are the same Si, STD, HF and DX even through 2000 with a d series engine the inners are the same the lengths and outers are different from year and model....
88-89 flywheels are the same 90-91 and some newer are the same for most of the clutch, but you get the idea
