Question for those who have taken apart Honda engine wiring harnesses
Question for those who have taken apart Honda engine wiring harnesses:
While taking apart an unmodified Honda engine wiring harness(96-00 Civic EX/SI specifically), have any of you spotted a bare wire covered with tape? Have you seen some wires extended to different gauge wire and covered with tape?
I'm trying to resolve a problem with a fellow HT member who I sold a SI harness to.
I personally have taken apart two UNMODIFIED/UNTOUCHED 96-98 Civic EX wiring harnesses, one from a manual transmission engine and another from an AT. The factory taped up some wires, and even taped up a length of bare wire. The factory also connects wires of different gauges together.
Can someone please confirm this to resolve a dispute. I really appreciate it.

These wire you are talking about are shielded. Its probably wires for the pick up for the dizzy. Do not tamper with these wires. One end of the bare wire is grounded and the other should not be.

So you confirm that there exist such wires that are bare but taped up? It was like this from the factory right? The guy thinks I was the one who did it.

this is done from the factory. These wires are shielded so they dont get any interference from other wires and electronics.

not every car comes with the same components. its cheapest for car makers to make all there parts similar so they can go from car to car. its just like how a b18b will drop into an eg civic

If you mean the plugs will plug in, then yes, but since when is a B series into a civic a "drop in" affair?

This is totally off topic anyways.

There's no problem. He's just trying to stay on topic. I personally hate it when a topic is finished and people just clutter it up with other stuff.
