gear ratios
i remeber lookin at a web page w/different trannys and there gear ratios, anybody know what i'm talking about
if not what the ys1 (92-93 gsr) ratios compared to the jdm s1 tranny (from a b16 i think)

Can anyone give an explanation of what longer gears mean? I'm looking basically at the differences in the say the b18b and the b18c usdm. I notice they are about the same for first and second but then the differences aren't that great numerically. Can anyone explain exactly what the hell is going on? Also, why a final drive if its a 5speed?
Thanks,
Noel

final drive is not 5th gear as many people think. it is the gear that all the gears turn on. in the v-8 rear wheel drive world it is referred to as a rear end. taller/longer = higher top speed, shorter = quicker accel., but it depends on both the 1-5 gears and the final gear, this is why people take some gears from 1, some from another, and the final from yet another to build the ultimate tranny.
thankx for the site, thats what i was looking for, but that brings me to a new question, how can u tell the difference on the outside of the gsr ys1, and the b18a ys1?

I had a 92 GSR and the Gears were SHORT! 145 MPH @ 8300 RPM 5th gear. It would be great on a Naturally Aspirated Cable Tranny setup. They are hard to find though, just like the cars.
Rebuilds are tough, never did one, but a factory manual and a knowledgeable tranny person helping could get the job done, but your prob better off buying one from a junkyard.
