Default Happy birthday to me! New engine.(no 56k)

So for my 18th birthday i decided to a engine. So i picked up a D16Z6 to drop in my 97' Honda Civic DX. The seller said the engine knocks and thinks its a spun bearing, im planning on rebuilding it this summer. So this is the start of another engine rebuild/swap thread.

Its a 17mm head bolt.
Thread pitch is 12mm x 1.25 I think.
Just use some tranny bolts.

Bottom end looks worthless.

Worthless = WAY too much $$$ to make good again.

did you pay for this? the head is fine im sure, but i wouldn't run that crank, or the block itself, going to need to line hone, and rework the bottom end more than it would cost to actualy buy a new d16z6

but.. good luck with the head.. is this gonna be a build for performance, or just a swap. D series not ftl, could always build a n/a like the handfull of us skilled peoples.. nothing beats pwning dohc fanboys with a n/a sohc

yeah i would agree
get a ls and tear it apart.
ls engine and tranny= $500 or less

if not then have fun building the engine.... you got to start somwhere and it looks like you picked up the perfect engine to learn on

Yeah, take the pics from further away (like the first one) and then just crop them down. That will help the camera to get EVERYTHING in focus (instead of the background)...

i agree on the pics im getting used to my new Nikon, sorry aobut the pics.

I paid $60 for the entire block. Original owner told me that it was knocking.

I bought a new crank, im just stuck on the piston/rod set up (can anyone help?PLEASE!)
contact me at: mdog244@gmail.com

I AM planning on rebuilding the engine for proformance. This is my "learning block" i plan on upgrading to a larger engine, but not now.

The block is currenetly at a machine shop. The block still had plenty of life left on it,and the cross hatchings where still there, and the "lip" at the top of the cylinder was still in great shape.Im getting all the parts dipped and cleaned off for less than $30.(My family is close friends with a person who can dip the parts)

I cant find any shops that deal with high performance engines so im hoping someone can help me out.

If the bottom end isn't that great you could always get a bottom end from a junk yard and slap teh vtec head on it if your on a buget. My brother did it and it runs great. If you have the money an LS would a cool option to if you wanted torque and stuff
