Condenser Fan not turning on
Does anyone know what can cause this. Its for a 96-00 civic. When the a/c is on and it gets hot. the fan does not turn on and the compressor stutters. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
could be a condensor fan relay or bad fan motor. as far as the studdering if their is no fan cooling the condensor then the high side pressure will build up and the pressure relief valve will bleed off the high pressure. dont use the ac untill the problem is corrected or you might be buying a new compressure and more plus the repair for the orignal problem.
hey,
When you say shudder do you mean engage and disengage quickly? If that is the case you might be low on refridgerant. You can check this by finding the pressure switch. It's a 2 wire plug usually found on a cylinder shaped object that is on the driverside. I drive and integra and that is where mine is. Not too sure about civic's. Disconnect the plug and jump it with a paperclip. With the a/c on and the car running the fan should come on. Jumping the plug simulates a/c pressures for normal operation. In turn the clutch should click and hold, and the fan should come on. If only the compressor clutch locks but the fan doesn't come on. Check for 12v at the relay. Then for 12v at the fan plug. If you have power all the way to the plug it is safe to say your fan is bad. Remove the fan and try jumping 12v to the plug to see if it spins. If still nothing well you need a new fan. Watch your hands for spinning parts when doing above don't want you losing a finger or 3.

when i say studder i mean...it tries to kick on but can't. and it continues doing it for about 5-7 cycles. for example. all you hear is click, clack....click, clack
i tried jumping the plug by the canister. the fan doesn't go on. can it be that i have bad plugs or not all the plugs are hooked up?. b/c i did the install myself
and as far as refrigerant. when it was working, i put in too much and it did expell the excess.
