Default Automatic '90 DX shifts hard

My automatic 1990 DX shifts hard coming out of first when I accelerate and then downshifts hard going back into first when I am decelerating.

Lately, when I try to accelerate at higher speeds (on the expressway) My RPM's will shoot up and then the transmission will catch and start accelerating normally.

I have been told that this could be a Transmission Control Module issue and not an issue with the actual transmission itself. Can anyone help me out with what this might be? Thanks!!!

My beater's been doing that for the last 60,000 mi... never really checked into it and it's got 220K on the original auto. But it's an EG. I figure if it hasn't grenaded itself yet, it's not that big a deal.

Now I fell kind of stupid asking this, but what is an EG? I tried Google and didn't come up with anything of worth.

Where is the best place to get a shift solenoid?

Thanks for your help!!!
