Rear rotors?
Ok so Im changing out the rear rotors and pads tomorrow...from what I understand the screws are a pain in the A$$ to get out..so can someone tell me how to drill them out...I have a pretty high powered drill to use but I just need to know exactly how to do it.should I get an easy out kit or whatever? any help is appreciated I need to do this asap!
Also I called an auto shop and they told me to get a good *** philips head screwdriver and have someone hold it in really tight while I put it in reverse and let it roll back while he tries to hold it in and hit it with a screwdriver a little bit?...anyone ever tried this?...and last but not least..do i HAVE to have those screws in there..I think there is only one on each wheel or at least there was only one on the left rear?..anyone know
use a e-z out. one about the thickness of the screw and another incase the head pops off the screw. Get four more screws from the dealer for no more than 3 dollars.
NO NO NO go to your local sears. They actually have something available. It's called an impact driver. You'll understand how it works once you get it. You'll save yourself a ton of labor.

seems to simple to be true...im definently excited about it though...ive been needing to change the rotors for a long time..thanks everyone...also does anyone have any prefrences on brake rotors..ill be getting them from advance auto or autozone so know brembos or anything...theres duralast at autozone and wearever at advance...which do you guys think would be a better rotor?
Most people here will tell you that Autozone parts are
. I've never gotten parts from them so I don't know. I go to carquest and napa, or honda if I need specialty.
You might be able to get those out without spending $25 on an impact driver. If you have a good tool selection you can get just about any screw out, the key is the find the one with a head that fits the screw correctly. 95% of the time people strip out the heads because they're using a driver that doesn't fit the screw correctly. The other 5% of the time you're just SOL and have to use easy-outs.

Disregard the comment by jimjonez, he's been warned.
Just a general note to keep in mind...

yes, like others have said, the impact driver does a great job at getting those screws out. I was able to get all four out on my 95 EX when I used it. I replaced them with new screws from the dealer, I just didn't put in real tight and I put some anti-seize on the threads to help it from rusting in there for the next time.
But when I did my front brakes on my hatch, I was only able to get the screws out on one side of the car. The other side stripped and I had to drill them out. I just used a small drill and drilled through, then used a bigger drill to drill the head of the screw off. Then the rotor came off. I didn't put screws back in with the new rotors though. Partly because I didn't re-tap the holes for the screws that I drilled out even though I can and then just use some screws again, but it's not needed.
So it's up to you if you want to use those screws or not. They are only there to hold the rotor in place during assembly. But once you put the rim on and torque it down, thats what really holds the rotor in place from moving. I haven't had those screws on the front brakes of my hatch for like 3 years now, no problems.

awesome..yea im gonna go pick up the impact driver today and see how that goes..any ideas on rotors where I should get them and how much they will cost?..I dont wanna spend to much but I dont want to get crappy rotors either
well i tried an impact on mine first and still couldn't get them out so that's when i went to the e-z out method. If it works for you great but it didn't for me, so if it doesn't for you then prepare for some drilling.
you can try using heat too, expand the metal with a soldering torch, usually works for me. I also dont like using impact tools on screw like that... because it breaks the heads off, I have always used just a screw driver and had great success. If you have to drill make sure to drill only the head off, dont drill deeper than that, this way you can square off the remaining part and use a socket, gator grip, pliers, wrench etc to get it out and not have to re-tap a hole on something that likes to spin on you.
if you want good rotors and pads, spend the extra money and get the bendix pads and rotors from advance auto. you'll most likely have to order them, but they can get them overnight. I really like bendix brakes and suggest them to everybody, they're made in the united states and you can't beat the warranty on the pads.
Ok well I did this project today and it went awesome...I went and picked up the impact driver and it worked amazingly...a couple of them were really rusted in there but i just beat the living hell out of it with a rubber mallet and they came right out!
..I went to Napa and bout the premium rotors and pads..cost me like 80 bucks or so..greased everything up good and put it all together..those rotors were rusted on there but I just hit the back of them really hard with a rubber mallet and they came right off!...Next project Front rotors and wheel bearing
not excited...anyways I took lots of pictures and in the next couple of days im gonna right up a How to for you guys

glad to hear it all went well. Not sure if you planned to or not, but make sure you change both wheel bearings, not just the one. You don't want to have to tear it all down again and have more down time a couple weeks or months down the road. Plus it will be fresh in your mind since you will have just done it on the one side. Good luck.
