i want to start my daily drive build soon and i would like to know what suggetions on camshafts that i should use for a daily driver.

Now i'm going to weep.
How much compression do you want to run?
What kind of smog laws do you have to deal with?
Where do you want your power band to be?
How much are you willing to spend?
The list goes on.
Also why am I even trying drinking Pepsi, I don't really like it.

heck out the all motor dyno thread...it will give you a good idea of what cams have to offer...
im gonna have to agree w/ everyone else and say ctr/itr or skunk2 stage 1s...
you say your gonna build the motor?
you can run a pretty aggresive cam on the street w/ enough comp. and still have good manners...its all in the tune...if you dont wanna chip the ecu or get a tune stick w/ itr/ctr cams...anything else is not gonna perform to its full potential on stock maps

if i go with sk2 stg1 ill have to upgrade valvetrain correct?
if i go with ITR the can my factory B16 valvetrain be ok or should i swap them to ITR or aftermarket dual valve springs?

w/ the itr cams you should be fine w/ stock valvetrain as long as you swap out the springs for something that can withstand higher rpm operation...
same story for the stage 1s but it would probably be a good idea to get retainers as well since they are more aggresive than the itr and you will need to rev higher than the itr cams to make peak power

so if i go with stage 1 your sayin maybe i would have to rev higher then factory redline to get to peak power?
how does this sound?
ITR camshafts
dual valve springs
titanium retainers
aftermarket cam gears
aftermarket intake maifold
bigger throttle body
ctr piston
sound like a good set up?
also thanks for all the helpful information.

With all that you can go bigger cam wise and still be more then street able.
You'll want to pick sizing of TB to match and pick a IM to match as well.
CTR pistons might push your comp higher then you'd want, what cams you use will help you that and also what kind of gas you are using.

i agree....he should definitely look into something bigger than the stage 1s if hes doing a complete performance rebuild...
hell still be able to run pump gas with the ctr slugs for sure...
as far as the TB the largest i would go is 64mm on a b16... even that is on the larger scale, but since your running a bigger cam and pistons it should match fairly well...

you would have to rev higher than the factory redline to make peak power w/ the itr cams as well...the more cam the higher up your powerband will move...
when selecting cams, you need to be brutally honest with yourself what your intentions for the motor are...if its a DD you have to expect the average RPM operating range is gonna be between 2500-5500 rpm...your not gonna want a cam that peaks at 9k because you dont spend all of your time in the higher RPM range and your low-mid range power is gonna be unsatisfactory....dont get me wrong you can still build the motor to be an overall performer, but you dont always need the biggest part available....
i think you will be more than happy w/ the skunk 2 stage 1s or 2s...but just like any other car guy if you get the stage 1s your gonna be wishing you got the stage 2s in a month or so

ok. so with my future set up, i can go with bigger cams as a daily driver.
now im stuck deciding wheither to go with ITR or Skunk2 stage 2. what are the pros and cons between the two?
ITR would be more of a reliable cam the skunk2 as a daily driver correct?

thats like comparing a apple to a orange
skunk stage 2 is not even in the same range as ITR.. The itr cam is gonna give you the more stock car feel.. where the skunk 2 is more agressive

i dont know what to tell you...you went from saying the motor will be all stock w/ bolt ons to saying your gonna do a rebuild of the bottom end....
like i said before you need to decide where you want your powerband to be...
theres a big difference between itr cams and sk2s2 cams...my suggestion would be to try n ride in or drive a car w/ each type of cam and see which one you prefer...in the end its your car, what some might consider streetable might not be what you see as streetable...
either way the sk2s2 loves compression and you would need all the supporting mods to take advantage of it...
cam selection should always be the last choice left when building a motor...
once you figure out what you really wanna do with the car let us know and we can guide you...or else your gonna end up spending a whole lotta money on mismatched parts that wont allow you to reach your goal...
as far as reliability they are all the same...as long as you install them correctly and have the car tuned you will be fine

not good for "daily driver" IMO

would you reccomend pro 1s over stage 2s for a 12:1 lsvtec?
