Default Stuttering - Wants To Die When Cold B16a OBD0 - Need Help

SO I bought a 90 Civic Dx hatch with a OBD0 b16a motor swapped into it, just a beater to get me around, it has a problem that when you first start the car, it will idle fine, maybe a little miss here and there, but pretty nice

When you rev it, with no load, it will rev up fine, but seems to be breaking up quite bad until you hold at a steady rpm then it will sit there fine

If you try and start the car and just start driving, wotn happen, the thing putters and backfires and the rpms wanna fall fast, you can rev yourself out of it and once the rpms get a little higher it seems to move

You can drive let it warm up for 5 min and itll drive off just fine without a stutter in the world

Or if you cold start it and just drive it takes about a minute for it to stop wanting to die.

Like literally die, just stops accelerating and starts puttering then itll randomly jump back to life

I changed the plugs because they were mismatched and old anyways, dont want to spend to much money on this.

Hope maybe someone has had this before

Thanks

Any CELs? If it's related to the thermostat being open or not, could be an air bubble in the coolant system or a dirty IACV. Not sure if the B16A has an FITV, if it does you may want to clean it out and adjust it.

Only CEL is the IACV, its a brand new oem unit and its plugged in, i dunno why i got the error, could be wrong wiring by previous owner

After i cleaned it out several times, the CEL just wouldnt go away

Yeah or it could be shorted somewhere. Check out the wiring, I can guarantee that once you clear up the IACV issue your problems will be solved.

Edit: Have you tried resetting the ECU?

Sensor problem. check the temp sensor and the temp gauge sensor, yes there is two. one to the guage, one to the ecu.
check the 02 sensor.

SInce its 0BD0, just get a Vato ZOn3 O2 for 20 bux.

The car takes forever to warm up, and sometimes if its relatively cold out and im moving pretty good, itll never move at all

Whats a VATO 02 sensor?

Change your thermostat. Your temp gauge sender could be off too.

Hmmm, I wonder if you're not getting the proper coolant to the IACV and that's why it's throwing a code.......
